Simdent Dental Training Simulator
Virtual Training Dental Simulator
Project Overview
The Virtual Training Dental Simulator is a computer-based dental training system currently under development for our client, designed for simulation, practice, and evaluation of dental procedures in a controlled virtual environment. The system will integrate simulation software, visual display, and haptic force-feedback hardware to replicate dental anatomy, instrument behavior, and material interaction.

Exercises
The simulator provides hands-on drilling exercises across three tooth tissue layers. Students begin with Caries (C) the softest decayed tissue, progress to Dentine (D) the intermediate layer, and advance to Enamel (E) the hardest outer surface, developing precise drilling control at each stage.

Hardware & Setup
The simulator enables accurate and repeatable execution of procedures such as tooth preparation and restorative tasks, while recording user performance parameters for objective assessment. SIMDENT operates through two interconnected sub-stations consisting of an Instructor PC and a Student PC for training management, monitoring, and evaluation. The system is further enhanced through integration with a Touch X Haptic Device, providing realistic force feedback. An articulated multi joint instrument interface similar to a dental mirror is tracked using a 6 DoF mechanism to capture its position and orientation in 3D space, enabling precise and intuitive interaction within the virtual environment.
